FootballMohamed Salah: Saudi Pro League Chief Expresses Fresh Interest in Liverpool Star
- A move by the Saudi Pro League for Mohamed Salah failed last month
- Liverpool rejected a huge bid from SPL giants Al-Ittihad for their ace
- Michael Emenalo has discussed the transfer amid continued interest
Saudi Pro League director of football, Michael Emenalo has addressed the failed transfer of Mohamed Salah to the country's top flight.
The Liverpool star was a target for SPL club, Al-Ittihad but the summer transfer window closed without a move to the Middle Eastern country.
According to the Athletic, Al-Ittihad made an offer of £100 million for the Egyptian, but the 2019 Premier League champions rejected this. The SPL giants were reportedly willing to spend £200 million to acquire the services of Salah.
If the transfer was successful, the Saudi side would have formed a superteam, having already signed Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, and Fabinho.
Salah had signed a lucrative new three-year deal and the English giants were reportedly not prepared to lose their best player, especially considering they would not have time to find a suitable replacement.
The 31-year-old scored 30 goals and contributed 16 assists last season.
Emenalo comments on Salah interest
The SPL have made some huge signings this year and have spent more than some of Europe's best leagues.
Cristiano Ronaldo paved the way, and then Neymar, Sadio Mane, Benzema, and others followed, making it a popular league.
Speaking about Salah, Emenalo said the Egyptian is his 'personal favourite', per 90min.
"Mo [Salah] is welcomed any time. But nobody is under pressure or forced to come. He's a personal favourite of mine. If people want to come and there’s an opportunity to work with clubs in a professional manner, we’ll be very happy to have him."
Al-Hilal attempted to sign PSG superstar, Kylian Mbappe for a world record €300mil as his dispute with his club continued. However, a deal did not materialise.
