The World Athletics has nominated 11 athletes for the 2023 Women’s World Athlete of the Year, with reigning world record holder in the 100-metre hurdles Tobi Amusan missing.
Jamaican superstar Shericka Jackson, who is the Diamond League 100m and 200m champion, is a strong contender for the prize, having made the list.
Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon, who holds the world record in the Women’s 1500m, also has a chance to win the World Athlete of the Year crown.
Sha’Carri Richardson and Tigist Assefa are also on the list, with World Athletics explaining that voting for the nominees will close on October 28.
The World Athletics Council’s vote will count for 50 per cent of the result, while the World Athletics Family’s votes and the public votes will each count for 25 per cent of the final result.

- Yulimar Rojas - Venezuela: triple jump
- Winfred Yavi - Bahrain: 3000m steeplechase.
The five male and female finalists for the World Athlete of the Year title will be announced by World Athletics on November 13 and 14. The winners will be revealed on social media a month later (December 11).
