- Meanwhile, speculations of the Argentine's return to the club continue to linger
Barcelona vice-president Eduard Romeu has addressed the ongoing reports surrounding a potential return of Lionel Messi to the Catalan club.
Speculation about Messi's return to Barca has persisted since his departure to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. However, the 2022 World Cup winner chose to join Inter Miami during the summer rather than go back to his former club.
With the MLS season concluding at the end of the year and Inter Miami eliminated from the playoffs, the possibility of Messi returning to Camp Nou on loan has resurfaced, per MARCA.
In response to these growing speculations, Romeu acknowledged the possibility of a return but clarified that it might involve a tribute to Messi in front of the Barcelona fans once Camp Nou reopens.
"The only thing I would like, and the day and time will surely come when the circumstances are favourable, is that we can pay him a great tribute," he told L'Esportiu via GOAL.
"He deserves it, and we're really looking forward to it. The rest is a matter of speculation. We don't even talk about this subject because we have already talked about it too many times."
During his illustrious career, the 36-year-old undoubtedly experienced the most remarkable period with La Blaugrana, securing numerous titles, among them four UEFA Champions League trophies, throughout his remarkable 17-year tenure with the Catalan giants.
