Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has linked up with the club's new summer signing, Sergio Reguilon, sparking further speculation about a possible Old Trafford return.

The Spaniard quit United at the end of last season following the expiry of his contract with the Red Devils.

His departure marked the end of his 12-year association with the Manchester club, having joined them back in 2011 under Sir Alex Ferguson.

According to Sportbible, United went on to sign Andre Onana in the summer as a replacement for De Gea.

However, the Cameroonian has endured a frustrating start to life at the Theatre of Dreams and has often found himself on the receiving end amid United's ongoing struggles.

Is De Gea returning to Old Trafford?

Speculation has since grown among a section of fans that De Gea could possibly rejoin the club in the coming days.

The Mirror reports the shotstopper returned to Manchester this week for the first time since he was released by United.

The Spain international has since been spotted with United summer signing Reguilon, fueling further rumours about an imminent return.

De Gea took to his Instagram stories to share a photo of him hanging out with the left-back in what appeared to be a restaurant setting.

"Good to see you amigo," he captioned the photo.

The 32-year-old remains without a club since his Old Trafford exit.

Why De Gea turned down Inter move

Sports Brief also reported on the reason why De Gea turned down a potential move to Inter.

He was heavily linked with the Nerazzuri in August 2023, after the departure of Onana, but the move did not materialize.

Part of the reason he turned down the Inter deal was because the Nerazzuri reportedly offered him a salary of €5m (£4.3m) net.
