FootballMokwena Reacts to Broos' Claims About Sundowns Players Using Excuses to Avoid Bafana Duties
- Rulani Mokwena has reacted to Hugo Broos' recent allegations about Mamelodi Sundowns players
- The Belgian coach is not happy with players withdrawing from the Bafana squad with poor excuses
- Mokwena has come out to defend his players over the issue and also promised to speak with Broos
Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Rulani Mokwena has reacted to Hugo Broos' recent complaints about the Brazilians' players giving 'excuses' so they could avoid joining the Bafana Bafana squad during the international break.
The Belgian manager had initially complained about the withdrawal of Masandwana's Khuliso Mudau and Thapelo Maseko from the South African national team squad due to injury, yet both later featured for the PSL champions in a match before the training camp was held - on two separate occasions.
Broos said he was not happy with Sundowns players trying to avoid the national team set-up after being included in the squad.
According to a report by iDiskiTimes, Mokwena has stated that Sundowns have always been clear about their players' injuries and often announce them on their social media pages and official websites.
"Mudau was injured, he wasn’t called up; he missed a couple of games for us, he missed Stellies, Chiefs, and was also suspended. But the reality is, one thing I like about Mamelodi Sundowns - and you have to give them credit - we post our injuries on social media before every match," he stated.
Mokwena also stated that he would speak with the Bafana Bafana coach regarding his statement, expressing concern about the public possibly being 'misled' about the club and its players.
"It is a little bit far-fetched to put the blame on the football club, and even though I’ll speak to the Bafana Bafana head coach about that statement, I think it is important from a public perspective I come to the defence of the football club in this instance," he concluded.

FootballBroos calls for better communication
Sports Brief previously reported on Broos calling for better communication after several members of the Bafana squad were rendered unavailable through injury or withdrawal.
The South African national men's team will play two friendly matches during the international window - one at home versus Eswatini before they fly to Abidjan to play their second.
Broos will have only two competitive matches in which to work with the Bafana Bafana squad before the African Cup of Nations, which is scheduled for January in Ivory Coast.
