Eden Hazard has called time on his football career after an illustrious journey spanning 16 years.

The Chelsea legend announced his retirement from football on Tuesday, October 10, aged just 32.

In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Hazard hinted that his struggles with injuries had left him with no choice but to retire from the game.

"You must listen to yourself and stay stop at the right time," he wrote on Instagram.
"After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer," he continued in a lengthy post.

Hazard enjoyed a largely successful football career that saw him ply his trade with some of the best clubs in Europe, including Chelsea and Real Madrid.

However, his spell with Real did not go according to plan, with a string of injuries hampering his progress at the La Liga club.

According to Sky Sports, Hazard could only manage seven goals in 76 appearances.

Despite his otherwise underwhelming spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, the winger did have a very good spell with Chelsea during his seven-year stint with the Blues.

6. All-time leader in assists for Belgium

Hazard holds the record for the most assists by any player for the Belgium national team.

He bagged an impressive 40 assists for the Red Devils during his time with them.

5. First Chelsea player to win EPL POTY since 2006

Until 2014/15, no Chelsea player had won the prestigious Premier League Player of the Year Award.

Hazard became the first to cart home the accolade since 2006 after an impressive campaign with the Blues.

4. Most Premier League assists by a Chelsea player

Hazard holds the record for the most Premier League assists by a Chelsea player. The 32-year-old bagged an eyewatering 59 assists during his stint with the west London club.

3. Most EPL assists in a single season

The former Real Madrid ace also holds the record for the most Premier League assists in a single season by a Chelsea player.

Hazard bagged 17 assists during the 2014/15 season to set the record.

2. Most assists in the FA Cup, CL, and Europa

Still on assists, the Belgian holds the record for the most assists by a Chelsea player in the FA Cup, Champions League, and Europa League. The former Lille star bagged 15 in the FA Cup, 12 in the Europa League, and 11 in the Champions League.

1. First Chelsea player to win FWA Footballer award

Back in 2015, Hazard became the first Chelsea player to win the coveted FWA Footballer of the Year award.

Blues legend, Gianfranco Zola was the last player at the club to lay his hands on the award back in 1997.

Hazard spotted at Stamford Bridge

Sports Brief also reported that Hazard was spotted at Stamford Bridge before the 1-1 draw between his former club and visiting Liverpool.

The Belgian spent seven years at Chelsea, but was without a club after Real Madrid terminated his contract. It was initially unclear why he was at the game, with Chelsea missing Christopher Nkunku due to injury.
