FootballJames Maddison Trolls Trent Alexander Arnold As Tottenham vs Liverpool VAR Drama Continues
- James Maddison has aimed a subtle dig at his England teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold
- The two were recently on opposite sides as Tottenham controversially beat Liverpool 2-1
- The nature of some of the refereeing decisions led to Liverpool's coach asking for a replay
James Maddison has revisited the contentious Tottenham versus Liverpool clash with a brutal comment aimed at Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The two teams played the most controversial game in recent times on September 30, with the Reds hard done by officials' decisions on more than one occasion.
Luis Diaz's goal was disallowed for offside, but replays showed the Colombian was totally onside. Refereeing body, PGMOL offered an instant apology, terming it a 'significant human error.'
Liverpool also had two players sent off, with Curtis Jones getting a straight red card for a high challenge on Yves Bissouma, while Diogo Jota walked for two bookable offences.
Jurgen Klopp went on record as calling for a replay of the game but also ceded it would be hard to grant one under the current circumstances.
It is the 'replay' word that has carried on, with Brighton fans recently mocking Liverpool by demanding a repeat of their own when the two sides met on October 8, as reported by Metro News.
Virgil Van Dijk was thought to have handled the ball inside the area, but no further action was taken.
What Maddison said to Alexander-Arnold
To add to the trolling, Maddison posted a picture of himself and Alexander-Arnold on his Instagram story and captioned it with a savage comment:
"Still asking for a replay."
The two players are currently in the England camp ahead of their friendly match against Australia on Thursday before they play Italy next week in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
The former Leicester City man has adapted well to life in North London, scoring two goals and providing five assists in his first eight games. Spurs currently lead the table on goal difference, with Liverpool back in fourth.
