  • Germany-based manager, Marco Rose has mocked FIFA's decision to host the 2030 World Cup in six countries
  • The opening game will be held in Montevideo, where the Centenario Stadium hosted the inaugural 1930 World Cup final
  • It is the first time the World Cup will be played on more than one continent

RB Leipzig manager, Marco Rose has taken a subtle jab at FIFA's decision to host the 2030 World Cup across six countries spanning three continents.

The 2030 edition, commemorating the tournament's centenary, is set to be unique as it will be the first World Cup held in six nations.

Six countries to host centenary World Cup

On October 4th, it was officially announced that Spain, along with Portugal and Morocco, secured the hosting rights for the 2030 World Cup.

Additionally, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay will host the opening matches of the tournament.

Coaches kick against surprise decision

This decision has generated mixed reactions, with several prominent coaches, including 2018 World Cup-winning coach Didier Deschamps, expressing their opposition to the idea of spreading the competition across three continents.

"I don't know who makes the decisions, but I won't hide from you the fact that I like things that are more coherent on a sporting and ethical level," Deschamps said, per ESPN.
"I don't think there is much coherence there."

Joining the chorus of coaches expressing their dissatisfaction with FIFA's surprising choice is RB Leipzig's Marco Rose.

Rose suggested that FIFA, headquartered in Switzerland, appears to have little regard for the key figures in the sport and implied that the organization might consider hosting the tournament in the most remote of locations.

"I think it's a shame, maybe even stupid," the 47-year-old gaffer said, as quoted by EuroFoot.
"If FIFA discovers a football field on Mount Everest, I'm afraid we'll play there one day!"

Sepp Blatter slams 2030 World Cup decision

In a related publication, Sports Brief reported that former FIFA President, Sepp Blatter has vehemently criticized the world football governing body's choice to grant the hosting rights of the 2030 World Cup to six nations.

Morocco, Spain, and Portugal will serve as the primary hosts, while Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay will host their opening matches in their respective countries to commemorate the centenary of the tournament's inaugural edition in 1930, where Uruguay triumphed over Argentina in the final.

Blatter, in an extraordinary move by FIFA, has expressed his disapproval of the decision.
