  • Gary Neville believes Arsenal are favourites to win this season's Premier League title
  • The Gunners have enjoyed an impressive start to the new season and are undefeated
  • Arsenal came close to winning the EPL title last season but were outdone by Man City

Manchester United legend, Gary Neville has stated that Arsenal are the firm favourites to win the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners came close to winning the title last season after a dominant run for the better part of the campaign but fell short in the final weeks.

At the time, Mikel Arteta's charges looked set to end their wait of close to two decades to lift the crown but missed out on the opportunity.

Despite suffering the heartache, the North Londoners have declared a clear intent to finally conquer the English top flight this season.

Arsenal are one of the only two teams yet to suffer defeat so far, with their latest outing ending in an encouraging 1-0 win over reigning champions, Manchester City.

According to The Mirror, the victory has the Emirates Stadium dwellers sitting joint top of the table with 20 points alongside rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.

Neville explains why Arsenal could win the EPL

Neville has since come out to back Arsenal as the favourites to win the Premier League title this season.

Speaking in the wake of the Gunners' victory over City, the former defender brilliantly broke down why Arteta's men are the side to beat in the title race.

However, his caveat was the Gunners needing to keep their players fit to maximise their chances.

"They’re 100 percent better with Declan Rice in the middle of the pitch, without a shadow of a doubt," Neville told Sky Sports via Metro UK.
"The reason I predicted Arsenal to win the title is because I felt they got close last year, I thought they’d be close again and I thought there’d be a slight treble hangover for City."

Neville also believes that with the Citizens achieving their 'utopia' last season, they will struggle to find the motivation again this term.

"When you’ve fought so long and hard to win a Champions League like they have and won the treble and repeated what Man Utd have done, there’s got to be that little bit of a sigh of relief," he added.

Man City set unwanted record

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Manchester City setting an unwanted record following their 1-0 defeat against Arsenal in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola and his troops have endured a shaky run of form in recent days, having lost three of their last four matches across competitions.
