  • Lionel Messi has touched down in Buenos Aires ahead of the October international break
  • The Inter Miami star will team up with his national teammates for the games against Paraguay and Peru
  • His season with Miami is over after missing out on a playoff spot with two games to go

Lionel Messi is one of the early birds at the Argentina camp after arriving in Buenos Aires for the October international games against Peru and Paraguay.

Messi has hardly been involved for Inter Miami since returning from the last international break, where he played against Ecuador but missed the game against Bolivia due to injury.

The injury limited him to only 72 minutes for the Herons as the club battled to secure points and missed out on playoff spots after they lost their first game with the Argentine in action against Cincinnati.

He will play no further parts in their season as the remaining two games come during the break, and it is just formality for Miami, who have nothing else to play for in the season.

Messi arrives in Buenos Aires

As spotted by ESPN cameras, the captain arrived in a private jet to Argentina's capital city of Buenos Aires in the company of club teammate Facundo Farias, who is expected to train with the U23 side despite his inclusion in the senior list.

The world champions will train at the Lionel Messi training facility at Ezeiza later this evening, with players who have arrived in camp - Emiliano Martínez, Gonzalo Montiel, Julián Álvarez, Nicolás Otamendi, Alejandro Garnacho, Enzo Fernández and Franco Armani, as noted by Informate Salta.

The reigning Copa America champions will host Paraguay at the El Monumental stadium on matchday three of the CONMEBOL edition of the 2026 World Cup qualifying series.

They won their opening two games against Ecuador and Bolivia with an aggregate scoreline of 4-0 as they try to qualify for the chance to defend their title in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

Inter Miami's results without Messi

Sports Brief analysed Inter Miami's results without Messi since his fitness concerns kicked in from the second game of Argentina's last international break against Bolivia.

They have won two games against Sporting Kansas City and Toronto but have lost three and drew two in his absence. They are winless in the last four consecutive games he missed due to injury.
