FootballOlivier Giroud: Fans Dig Up Video of Harry Kane’s Goalkeeping Blooper at Tottenham
- Olivier Giroud is the rave of the moment after keeping a clean sheet in goal for AC Milan
- The French striker took responsibility after Mike Maignan was shown a straight red card
- Fans have dug up a video of Harry Kane dropping a stinker in a similar position
Olivier Giroud and Harry Kane are comparable as strikers, albeit with not much difference between them, but as a goalkeeper, the Frenchman is miles clear of the English forward.
He caught the headlines at the weekend after finishing AC Milan's 1-0 win over Genoa as a goalkeeper following the red card to Mike Maignan late in the game.
Giroud was called into action and in the few minutes he spent in goal he made a brilliant double save to preserve Milan's lead after Christian Pulisic put the Rossoneri ahead before Maignan's sending-off
The former Chelsea striker is not the first outfield player to be in goal following a sending-off of a keeper, but one of them is getting dragged for his blooper after the France international's heroics.
Fans dig up Kane's goalkeeping blunder
As reported by SportBible, Kane had a goalkeeping cameo in 2014 during Tottenham's 5-1 UEFA Europa League win over Asteras Tripolis after Hugo Lloris was sent off.
Spurs were 5-0 ahead at that time, and the Bayern Munich striker had scored a hat-trick. He made a mess of himself after spilling a free kick into the net to give the opponent a solitary goal.
Fans have dug up the almost 10-year-old video to make fun of the English striker after Giroud pulled off heroics in goal for AC Milan at the weekend.
Kane vs Giroud
The two players have made names for themselves in varying proportions as strikers by trade; Kane is the better individual player and has better goal-scoring stats, but where he has failed, Giroud has excelled. The former Spurs striker is trophyless, in contrast to the Frenchman who has a World Cup and Champions League medal.
Domino's Pizza troll Chelsea's lack of goals
FootballPer Transfermarkt, the 30-year-old has 314 club goals to the former Arsenal star's 273. Both are England and France's record goalscorers with 59 and 54 respectively.
Milan sell out Giroud's GK shirts
Sports Brief reported on Milan selling out Giroud's goalkeeper shirts. The club took advantage of the striker's heroics in goal and printed 'Giroud 9' on goalkeeper shirts, which sold out in less than 24 hours.
Club legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic requested one of the new prints and sent a cheeky message to his former teammate, telling him he had found a new position in old age.
