FootballGoalkeeper Saves Penalty, Scores Header Moments Later to In Dramatic Scenes
- Incredible scenes were witnessed in France’s third tier as a goalkeeper scored for his team in the dying stages
- Anthony Beuve was the hero for his team as he also saved a penalty moments before scoring a late goal
- His goal had striking similarities to Lazio’s Ivan Provedel, who scored a late goal in the Champions League last month
One of the most extraordinary football stories was witnessed on Friday, October 6 as a goalkeeper in the French third tier scored a late goal moments after saving a penalty.
Anthony Beuve emerged as an unlikely hero for his team, US Avranches, who were on the verge of defeat against Grand Ouest Association Lyonnaise (GOAL) FC.
GOAL had the chance to make it 2-0 as they got a penalty towards the end of the game. Florian Raspentino stepped up to take it, but he attempted a cheeky Panenka penalty, which was expertly stopped by Beuve, who gave his team hopes of salvaging an equalizer.
Towards the end of the game, US Avranches got a late free-kick after a foul on Goncalves Pereira.
The resulting free kick was whipped in the box, and against the odds, Beuve met it with a header which ended up in the net to give his team a crucial point.
As reported on Daily Star, Beuve was over the moon after his goal as he admitted to forgetting he had saved a penalty earlier.
“Since I started playing football, I was chasing a goal,” he said.
"I almost forgot that I saved a penalty before! It made it possible to get a point which was a little unexpected in relation to our performance."
His goal was reminiscent of one scored by Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, who nodded in a crucial equalizer for the Biancocelesti against Atletico Madrid last month.
Giroud goes in goal for Milan

FootballSports Brief also reported on how Oliver Giroud went in goal for Milan and helped his side claim a win over Genoa on Saturday, October 7.
Milan came into the game knowing a win would send them to the top of the Italian Serie A table after Inter Milan threw away a two-goal lead against Bologna.
Their goalkeeper Mike Maignan came out to head a ball away outside the penalty area and went knee-first into the chest of Caleb Ekuban, which saw him get sent off.
A few minutes before Maignan's red card, the Rossoneri used up their substitution and striker Olivier Giroud went in goal for the game's final minutes.
