  • Arsenal looked on course to win the Premier League title last season
  • However, Mikel Arteta's men were unable to withstand pressure from Man City
  • City beat the Gunners to the crown by five points to win the title for the third consecutive time

Erling Haaland has highlighted the moment he knew Arsenal would not beat Manchester City to the Premier League title last season.

The Gunners were in a pole position to secure the crown under Mikel Arteta after a dominant run through the campaign.

Arteta's charges enjoyed a significant advantage over City in the title race for the better part of the season and were the odds favourites to cart home the title.

According to talkSport, Arsenal had lost only four times until sometime around May 2023.

So close they were that they sat five points clear of Man City at the top of the Premier League table in March.

However, the north Londoners endured a horrible run in April as they managed just one win in five matches.

That run culminated in a 4-1 mauling at the Etihad Stadium, with the result all but denying them a chance of laying their hands on the domestic crown.

But according to Haaland, he knew the Gunners would bottle the title way before.

The Norwegian, who played a pivotal role in helping City retain the title, disclosed that their win over Liverpool before they met Arsenal had him convinced they would be crowned champions.

"For me, it was the Liverpool game at home, I was so nervous. They went 1-0 up but if I knew if we won this [match], we would win [the title]," he said via The Mirror.

Arsenal and Man City are scheduled to renew their rivalry on Sunday when they face off at the Emirates Stadium.

Pep recalls saving Arteta's job

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Pep Guardiola has opened up on how he played a key part in helping Mikel Arteta keep his Arsenal job.

Arteta was appointed Arsenal boss back in December 2019 on a three-and-a-half-year deal as the permanent replacement for Unai Emery, who had been sacked at the time.
