- The most contentious topic is which stadium should host the final
- Xavi Hernandez has said Barcelona's Camp Nou should host the final
Spain, Portugal and Morocco were awarded the rights to jointly host the 2030 World Cup. However, there's an ongoing battle as to which stadium should host the final.
Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has thinks that their team's stadium, Camp Nou, should host the final.
FIFA regulations state that the final must be held in a stadium with at least an 80,000 capacity, and Barcelona's 90,000 Camp Nou stadium would comfortably qualify to host the final, per the Athletic.
Speaking ahead of Barcelona's La Liga clash against Granada, Xavi gave his thoughts about two countries hosting the World Cup.
"The format for the 2030 World Cup is not a normal format, playing in several countries," said Xavi. "But if that's the decision, it's because they think it is for the best," via Sport.
He gave a reason why Camp Nou should host the final.
"Of course it would, why not. It's the stadium with the largest capacity."
Camp Nou is currently being renovated and will reportedly have a capacity of 105,000. Morocco are also looking to host the final in Casablanca. However, the three countries must wait to find out the final decision.
Bernabeu to host 2030 World Cup final?
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti recently said his club's Santiago Bernabeu should host the final. He gave a controversial reason.
“The World Cup final has to be played in Madrid, because Madrid is the capital of Spain. And it has to be played at the Bernabeu because the Bernabeu is going to be the best stadium in the world. Simply for that reason.”
Santiago Bernabeu is the favourite to host the final as they did in 1982 when Italy beat West Germany 3-1.
