FootballPSG’s Luis Enrique’s Comment to Marco Verratti Resurfaces After Midfielder Al Arabi Transfer
- Marco Verratti saw his 11-year spell at Paris Saint Germain brought to an abrupt end
- The midfielder was deemed surplus to requirement under coach Luis Enrique
- The Spanish gaffers' disdainful words to the Italian midfielder has recently surfaced
Marco Verratti's time at Paris Saint Germain came to a close in a seemingly unceremonious manner after he completed his transfer to Qatari Star League club Al Arabi.
The 30-year-old midfielder, who was one of the marquee signings that marked the entry of Qatari Sports Investment (QSI) into European football back in 2011, found himself surplus to requirements under the management of Luis Enrique.
The former Barcelona coach who was appointed coach of the Parisian club in July, had a long list of players he deemed as not suitable to his plans at the Ligue club, as reported by Goal, with the names of Brazilian Neymar Jr. and Verratti topping the list.
Whilst both Neymar and Verratti have successfully secured their exit from the French club, the remarks of Enrique to the Italian has grabbed the headlines recently.
Luis Enrique's words to Marco Verratti
According to reports from the French outlet Le Parisien, the 53-year-old former Spanish national team coach said to Verratti,
“You are the prototype of the player I hate.”
These words from Enrique played a significant role in the tense and inevitable departure of the Italian central midfielder, who was seemingly excluded from matches and training with the first-team setup under the Spanish manager.
Verratti, who had made more than 416 appearances for the French champions and won over 30 titles during his time there, eventually completed a £40 million transfer to Al Arabi in the Qatari Star League.
