Both players became successful with City and Chelsea, winning the UEFA Champions League and further Premier League titles.

In a post shared on social media, Mahrez expressed his excitement after meeting his former teammate.

"Brothers," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Meanwhile, in a star-studded game, it was the less-fancied Al Ahli that surprised Al Ittihald after securing a 1-0 win at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.

Ivory Coast midfielder Franck Kessie scored the only goal of the game in the first-half as Al Ahli recovered from the defeat to Al Nassr and return to winning ways, as reported by ESPN.

"We are Al Ahli," an excited Mahrez posted after the match on social media.

Mahrez and Kante have been key players for their respective clubs this season as the race for the Saudi Pro League intensifies.

Kessie scores winner as Al Ahli beat Al Ittihad

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ivorian midfielder, Franck Kessie was the star of the Jeddah derby after netting the only goal of the match between Al Ahli and Al Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League on Friday.

The former AC Milan and Barcelona midfielder fired home from the edge of the box to beat Marcelo Greho in the Ittihad post.

The visitors held on to end to finish the game with victory at the King Abdullah Sports City.

Mahrez embraces Saudi Arabia culture

Saudi Arabia has become the centre of attraction in sports since the end of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar following the influx of superstar footballers from Europe.

Before the turn of the year, many did not envisage the best player is Europe - Karim Benzema - and the best player from Africa - Sadio Mane - will be joining five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia.

Brazil's record goal scorer Neymar also moved to the gulf after ending his stay with French giants, Paris Saint-Germain.
