Soweto side Orlando Pirates should have been in the running for a group spot but were eliminated by Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy, reported.

Sundowns, who are looking to dethrone Al Ahly as the best team in Africa, will have a tough task of getting out of their group.

Sundowns will face an Egyptian side in Pyramids FC, TP Mazembe from Congo, and FC Nouadhibou from Mauritania. The Brazilians have only won the continental title once but are looking to end their seven-year wait for another title.

SuperSport, who missed out on Champions League football after finishing behind Pirates in the league last season, will also have to face an Egyptian side.

They will face USM Alger of Algeria, Modern Future FC of Egypt, and Al Hilal of Libya.

Sekhukhune, competing in their first tournament, will play RS Berkane from Morocco, Diables Noirs from Congo and Stade Malien from Mali.

Berkane has won the tournament twice already. They last won the cup in 2022, when they beat Pirates in the final. The game was decided on penalties after it finished 1-1 after regulation time.

Orlando Pirates eliminated from CAF Champions League

Orlando Pirates' CAF Champions League journey has come to a premature end.

The Soweto side have been eliminated from the tournament in the second preliminary round, Sports Brief reported.

Botswana's Jwaneng Galaxy knocked out the Buccaneers via penalties after the match was level 1-1 on aggregate.
