- Mikel Arteta has given an update on Saka ahead of a crunch tie vs. Manchester City
Mikel Arteta has alleviated Arsenal fans' fears over Bukayo Saka's injury, after the coach provided an update on the winger ahead of the vital tie against Manchester City.
Saka was a doubt for the Champions League game against RC Lens after walking off the 4-0 win over AFC Bournemouth with an injury, but he was fit to start the game.
He did not make it far in the game against the French side and exited the game in the first half after taking a hit to his Achilles tendon, watching from the bench as his team suffered a 2-1 defeat.
Arsenal have an all-important tie against champions, Manchester City on Sunday. As per Squawka, the Gunners have lost their last 12 league games against City with an aggregate score of 33-5.
Arteta's update on Saka's injury
Speaking to Arsenal TV ahead of the game at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, Arteta delivered positive news on the England international.
"He is in contention, we'll see how he progresses from here to Sunday. Obviously he had to leave the pitch [against RC Lens], that's never good news, but let's see how he recovers," he said.
Saka was named in England's squad for the October international break. Arteta seems not to have any issue with this, claiming they are in constant communication over the player.
"I give [Gareth Southgate] the news and the position that everybody is at, and then we have really good communication. He needs to make the best decision for the national team and organising them," he said.
