- Sundowns have opened up a seven-point lead over second-placed Golden Arrows after eight games this season
Hugo Broos has once again weighed in on Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance in the DStv Premiership.
The reigning champions have won the first eight games of the new season and have already opened up a seven-point lead over the team in second place.
Speaking about Sundowns’ start to the season, Broos made a prediction on when the Brazilians would wrap up the title, Times LIVE reported.
“For the past two years, there is no battle anymore. Now Sundowns are already 10 points ahead. In February or March, we will already know the champions again, and that is not good for African football, he said.
Broos also added that it wasn’t good that Sundowns had it so easy in the league because when they faced stronger competition in continental tournaments, it was a new experience for them.
“Maybe it is one of the reasons that every time Sundowns reach the quarter and semifinal stage of the CAF Champions League, they are knocked out because they play against tough opponents there,” he noted.
Broos made the comments while announcing his Bafana squad for the upcoming international break.
As noted by Soccer Laduma, the Belgian named his 23-man squad that will take on Eswatini and the Ivory Coast in two friendlies.
