  • Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly banned four players for homophobic chants
  • The offensive chants marred the French giants' 4-0 win over Marseille in Ligue 1
  • PSG also has to close the Auteuil stand at their home stadium of Parc des Princes

Four Paris Saint-Germain players were reportedly given one-match suspensions on Thursday for abusive chants directed at rivals, Marseille following a Ligue 1 encounter.

The quartet is alleged to have joined in with offensive homophobic chants aimed at Marseille players after the 4-0 win at the Parc des Princes against their fiercest rivals on Sunday, September 24.

According to ESPN, Randal Kolo Muani, Ousmane Dembele, Achraf Hakimi, and Layvin Kurzawa have been handed one-match suspensions for their role in the homophobic chants, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (IFL) confirmed.

Ligue 1 suspended the players on October 10 and chose to close the Auteuil stand at the Parc des Princes for two games, one match of which was suspended.

PSG have previously released a statement condemning 'all forms of discrimination, particularly homophobia' in the aftermath of the incident that marred the win over Marseille.

PSG players apologise for chants

Meanwhile, all four players suspended by PSG have apologised, saying they let themselves 'get carried away with the euphoria' of the 4-0 win over rivals, Marseille, Arab News reports.

The quartet of Ousmane Dembele, Randal Kolo Muani, Achraf Hakimi and Layvin Kurzawa were given suspensions after being filmed singing an insulting song towards opposition fans.

All four players are now guaranteed to miss PSG’s upcoming Ligue 1 game against Rennes on Sunday, October 8, after they were found guilty of the offence by the Ligue 1 authorities.

Fans react to struggling form of Dembele

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on PSG continuing their underwhelming start to life under new manager, Luis Enrique as they fell to their first defeat at the Parc des Princes to a Ligue 1 challenger, OGC Nice.

Despite Kylian Mbappe and Terrem Moffi stealing the headlines at the French capital, it was the missed chances of former Barcelona star, Dembele that had pundits and fans alike singing a different tune.

The French forward's goal drought continued during the top flight clash against Nice and his glaring miss in the 38th minute undoubtedly did little to boost his confidence as he struggles to adapt to PSG.
