- This comes days after Napoli was forced to release another statement over the offensive TikTok videos
Napoli have distanced themselves from the creators of a toy mimicking their star striker Victor Osimhen.
The doll, which bears a resemblance to the Nigerian star, complete with the protective mask he dons, went viral on October 5, prompting questions of whether the club had authorised its release.
The defending Serie A champions were recently in the crosshairs of Osimhen's fans after they released offensive videos mocking the striker for missing a penalty.
Napoli's statement on Cicciobello Bomber
The club has, however, released a statement confirming that the creators of the doll did so on their own without their knowledge. Apart from the mask, the doll is draped in a full Napoli kit and Osimhen's jersey nine on it.
"With reference to the news, which appeared on numerous online information sites, relating to the imminent marketing of a children's game called "Cicciobello Bomber" - a doll that reproduces the features of the player Victor Osimhen, portrayed wearing a uniform clearly referable to the shirt from the Club's first team - the SSCN specifies that this is an unofficial product, the creation of which has not been authorized in any way by the Club."
Football Italia reports that the doll was produced by Giochi Preziosi, a company owned by former Genoa patron Enrico Preziosi.
The club has promised to take unspecified steps, which could mean legal action.
Nigerians protest against Napoli’s treatment of Osimhen
Sports Brief earlier reported that Nigerians have protested against Napoli's treatment of Victor Osimhen.
Despite the Super Eagles striker's statement, some Nigerians still took to the streets to protest against the way he was being treated by the Italian Serie A club.
Osimhen was not the only one the protesters were fighting for; they were also fighting for other Nigerian athletes in Europe and beyond, who are facing one issue or the other.
