FootballXavi Explains Why Yamal Left the Pitch vs Porto: “He Wanted to Use the Toilet”
- Lamine Yamal had to be substituted because he needed to use the toilet
- The 16-year-old forward started Barcelona’s UCL game against Porto
- Yamal became the youngest player ever to start in the Champions League
Lamine Yamal was unable to complete Barcelona’s Champions League encounter for the weirdest reason after he had to leave the pitch early to use the toilet.
The teenager, who made history by becoming the youngest player to start a Champions League game at 16 years and 83 days, could not bask in that glory after leaving the game early.
According to GOAL, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandes has now revealed Yamal was feeling unwell, which was the reason he needed to use the toilet and was substituted in the 80th minute.
"Lamine Yamal was unwell. He had an illness, he had been telling me for a while. I took advantage of a break to tell him to be quick and go to the toilet, but in the end, they told me that he wouldn't be able to get back on the pitch."
Barcelona would go on to win their second consecutive game in the Champions League after a Ferran Torres goal gave the Catalan club a 1-0 victory against Porto on Wednesday, October 4.
Yamal tipped to reach Mbappe’s level
Meanwhile, Portuguese coach Carlos Carvalhal has tipped Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal to rival the talent of Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe in the future, PSG Talk reports.
On Monday, the 16-year-old winger signed his first professional contract with the Catalan side until at least 2026, with the contract including a whopping €1 billion release clause.
Yamal cannot sign contracts longer than three years because he is under the age of 18, which is why he has not signed any longer agreements.
Comparing Yamal to Messi is dangerous
Earlier, Sports Brief reported Lamine Yamal’s breakout season with Barcelona has caught the attention of football fans worldwide, with many now comparing the Spanish youngster to Lionel Messi.

FootballThe 16-year-old wonderkid has been phenomenal for the Catalan giants this season, playing a key role in Xavi’s team since replacing Ousmane Dembele, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
Xavi is not impressed with the recent comparisons with Messi, who also started his career at Barcelona and became a legend of the Catalan club during his 17-year spell.
