Lamine Yamal’s breakout season with Barcelona has caught the attention of football fans worldwide, with many now comparing the Spanish youngster to Lionel Messi.
The 16-year-old wonderkid has been phenomenal for the Catalan giants this season, playing a key role in Xavi’s team since replacing Ousmane Dembele, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
In a video posted by GOAL, Xavi is not impressed with the recent comparisons with Messi, who also started his career at Barcelona and became a legend of the Catalan club during his 17-year spell.
The Barcelona coach explained that players who have been compared with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner have not turned out as predicted and has called for the comparison with Yamal to stop.
At 16 years and 83 days, Yamal has become the youngest player ever to be named in the starting line-up in the UEFA Champions League after being involved for Barcelona in their victory against Porto on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Barcelona manager Xavi has explained that teenage sensation Lamine Yamal needed to use the toilet during the second half of their Champions League win against Porto, Four Four Two reports.
The 16-year-old forward played 80 minutes, but he left the pitch in the 71st minute and did not return as Xavi claims he started feeling unwell and had to be substituted in the encounter.
Yamal will hope to be fit for Barcelona’s next games as the Spanish league champions will return to action on Sunday, October 8, when they travel to Granada in La Liga.
