Having signed for Orlando Pirates in July from Supersport United, Patrick Maswanganyi is relishing the opportunity for early silverware.
Orlando Pirates take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 final on Saturday in Durban. This will be an opportunity for Maswanganyi to earn a place in the hearts of Pirates fans.
Since arriving, Masawanganyi has played 10 times for the Buccaneers, contributing five assists and getting on the scoresheet once.
Despite the admirable return on the confidence shown in him by coach Jose Riveiro, Maswanganyi knows he has more to give, as reported by KickOff Magazine:
"I havn’t done much to help the team but slowly and surely, I am getting there and trying to improve with help of my teammates and coaches. I need to work a lot harder to improve and become the best that I can be."
Maswanganyi was not expecting to line up in black and white this season, stating that it came as a surprise to him. Speaking to IOL.co.za, Maswanyanyi said:
"It’s also something that I didn’t know about. I was called in at the last minute. I was very, very happy. And now that I’m here, I am happy and enjoying myself."
Maswanganyi may have a humble view of his efforts but those around him have been appreciative of what he adds to the team.
Orlando Pirates coach, Jose Riveiro praised the Stars of Africa youth product for the way he has transitioned into the Pirates system.

FootballSABC Sport reported that Riveiro was pleased with how Maswanganyi was linking up Zakhele Lepasa and other talismanic forwards who will be vital to success in the MTN8 final.

The Mamelodi Sundowns boss took a shot at his opponent’s aggression and treatment of referees.
