  • Paris Saint-Germain have been slammed for allowing Lionel Messi and Neymar to leave
  • The French giants were beaten 4-1 by Newcastle United in the UEFA Champions League
  • Former captain Thiago Silva liked a post condemning PSG for releasing two superstars

Thiago Silva has seemingly hopped onto the bandwagon of criticising Paris Saint-Germain, if his latest social media activity is anything to go by.

PSG were put to the sword by Newcastle United in the UEFA Champions League on October 4, with the Magpies running out 4-1 victors at St. James Park.

One might argue the result was rather fair to the Parisians, considering how Eddie Howe's charges had dominated proceedings.

Goals from Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff, and Fabian Schar saw the Toons record their first UCL win in over two decades.

The argument of the night was how PSG failed to offer any impetus going forward, with the front four of Kylian Mbappe, Goncalo Ramos, Randal Kolo Muani, and Ousmane Dembele looking like passengers.

PSG blamed for allowing Messi, Neymar to leave

The Ligue 1 giants underwent an overhaul this summer where Lionel Messi, Neymar Junior, and Marco Veratti were allowed to leave - a decision that is now seemingly costing coach, Luis Enrique.

An Instagram user, Ofuiclear tore into PSG for allowing the players to leave in a heavy-worded statement recently.

"You have to [expletive] to give up this trio [Verratti, Neymar and Messi]. You have to be stupid or sold out and the worst thing is that this [expletive] echoes around here. Lots of motivated weaklings with a microphone out there, and they talk like scholars," he said, in a translation provided by PSG Report.

Post follows - explicit content warning

The post was liked by Silva, which can be insinuated as tacit support of the message. The Brazilian captained PSG before joining Chelsea in 2020, where he won the UCL a year later.

Messi joined Inter Miami on a free transfer, while Neymar and Veratti joined Saudi Pro League clubs for 'modest' fees.

PSG will next face AC Milan in a double header as they look to get their Champions League campaign back on track after the drubbing in England.

Mbappe leaves the pitch early

Meanwhile, a disappointed Mbappe left the pitch shortly after PSG’s crushing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United earlier this week.

As Sports Brief reported, a look at the game showed he was an isolated figure for most of the game as the Magpies did well to subdue him.
