  • Manchester United have been underwhelming since the start of the new season
  • The Red Devils have lost four Premier League games in just seven outings so far
  • United's most recent setback came against Galatasaray in the Champions League

Manchester United have broken several unwanted records this season after a poor start to the campaign under Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils went into the 2022/23 season off a fantastic run that saw them end the season with silverware in the shape of the Carabao Cup.

United further secured a UEFA Champions League spot after an encouraging third-place finish behind Arsenal and Manchester City, who were crowned champions.

However, the Old Trafford dwellers have struggled for form and results since the start of the new season, with their struggles coming in the Premier League and the Champions League.

United have suffered four defeats in the EPL in seven outings, managing just nine points in the process.

Ten Hag's latest setback came on Tuesday night when his team was humbled 2-3 by Galatasaray in their second Group A match of the Champions League.

According to The Guardian, the Turkish side mounted a resilient performance to sink the Red Devils, rendering Rasmus Hojlund's brace a mere consolation.

Man United's woeful run of form has seen them break and set unwanted records this season. Sports Brief takes a look at 10 of these records.

10. First English club to lose against Galatasaray

Prior to the Tuesday cracker, Galatasaray had not tasted victory in England in their 117 years of existence.

Their 3-2 win over United was their first in the history of the Turkish club.

9. Most goals conceded in UCL

Man United have conceded seven times in their opening two fixtures of the Champions League, having previously lost 3-4 against Bayern Munich.

GiveMeSport reports that the Red Devils had never conceded more than three goals in back-to-back Champions League games.

8. Most defeats in EPL start

Having already lost four times in their seven opening Premier League games, this is the most defeats the club has recorded during the same period in the history of the club.

7. Most goals conceded in all competitions

United have appeared shaky at the back, an attribute that has seen them concede as many goals.

This is the first time since 1978 the club have conceded three or more goals in three consecutive matches.

The record was broken after straight defeats against Arsenal, Brighton, and Bayern Munich.

6. First defeat at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Man United had not lost away at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium prior to their visit earlier in the season.

The North Londoners condemned them to a 2-0 defeat in what was their first loss at the facility in five outings.

5. United breaks unwanted record vs Nottingham

While Man United staged a dramatic comeback to beat Nottingham Forest 4-3, they did set an unwanted record during the tie.

This was the first United team to concede two goals in the opening four minutes of a Premier League match. Taiwo Awoniyi and Willy Boly were both on target for Forest during the opening four minutes of the tie.

4. Most shots conceded

Despite beating Wolves in their first game of the season, Man United were largely on the losing end.

During the game, Andre Onana faced 23 shots on target, the most United have conceded in a single match.

3. Brighton sets history

Ten Hag has not had the best of experiences against Brighton. The Seagulls have now secured back-to-back victories at Old Trafford for the first time in the history of the club.

Graham Potter led Brighton to victory at the Theatre of Dreams last season before Roberto de Zerbi completed the double recently.

2. Record number of defeats

United have recorded two successive defeats following Tuesday night's setback against Galatasaray.

The loss was their sixth in their 10 opening games of the season - the last time this happened was in 1986.

1. Most goals conceded in 10 games

Man United have now shipped in 18 goals in their 10 opening games of the season following their 2-3 defeat vs Galatasaray.

The last time this happened was in 1967.

Varane roasted over UCL comments

Sports Brief also reported on Raphael Varane possibly speaking too soon after Champions League comments he made before Man United's meeting with Galatasaray.

The Red Devils' defeat to the Turkish Super Lig giants came just hours after the centre-back had claimed his team could well win this season's Champions League title.
