The rumour mill is swirling around the possibility of Orlando Pirates turning to a talent that was recently allowed to be farmed out to Moroka Swallows.

Tshegofatso Mabasa joined Pirates in 2019, scoring 15 goals in his 55 appearances across three seasons to date.

The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Sekhukhune United, scoring 2 goals in 20 domestic appearances.

Mabasa was loaned to Moroka Swallows this season and has scored six goals in 10 games for the Dube Birds, but three months is a long time to wait to rectify the goal shortage in Orlando.

Commenting on the likelihood of an early recall, an unnamed source told The Citizen:

"He is very impressive and the technical team have been watching him. At the moment I’m not really certain, but there is a huge possibility that he might be brought back to the club in January."

Riveiro desperate for MTN8 final

Sports Brief earlier reported that as Orlando Pirates look to plot a new course, they must release the anchor of the past.

Jose Riveiro's men will take on an all-conquering Mamelodi Sundowns in Saturday's MTN8 final, with the Brazilians unbeaten in 90 minutes this year.

Pirates are coming off four negative results, which included a first-leg CAF Champions League preliminary round loss to Jwaneng Galaxy FC and a DStv Premiership defeat to Saturday's opponents.

Mabasa's loan at Sekhukhune United

The Orlando Pirates player was unveiled as a Sekhukhune United player in June 2022, joining Babina Noko on a season-long loan.

The striker had struggled for game time at the Buccaneers and was looking forward to finding his goalscoring form with the Gauteng side.

He thanked the chairman for the opportunity and his new teammates and coaches for the warm welcome.

He promised that supporters could expect the new-look team to turn losses into draws and draws into wins as they looked to finish as high as possible.
