FootballBukayo Saka: Arteta Delivers Bad News on Arsenal Star’s Injury in Lens Defeat
- Bukayo Saka limped out in the first half of Arsenal's UCL defeat to Lens
- The winger was a doubt, having walked out of the 4-0 win over Bournemouth clash with injury
- Head coach Mikel Arteta has provided an update on Saka's injury
Arsenal fans are worried about Bukayo Saka after their star man walked out with an injury in the first half of their 2-1 UEFA Champions League defeat to RC Lens.
Saka was a doubt for the game after limping off in the 4-0 win over Bournemouth, and most fans are worried he started the game against the physical French side.
He assisted Gabriel Jesus for the opening goal, and Adrien Thomasson responded for the home side before he was replaced by Fabio Vieira after calling to be substituted.
Goalkeeper David Raya's blunder was complicit in the first goal before a brilliant goal from Elye Wahi condemned Arsenal to their first defeat of the season in all competitions.
Arteta's update on Saka's injury
There have been concerns over the 22-year-old's workload, with fans calling for him to be rested for one of the games against Bournemouth or RC Lens.
Saka appeared to have gotten injured under no challenge, but Arteta confirmed otherwise to TNT Football and provided further updates.
"It was an action. It was a backheel, and he felt something specific. It was nothing else. Obviously, he wasn’t comfortable to continue," he said.
He could not disclose how long the injury could keep him out, but TV2 Sport via Mirror UK claimed he told their broadcaster, "it doesn't look good."
The Gunners will host champions Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, and Saka's absence could be a big blow with left winger Gabriel Martinelli's availability also uncertain.
Arsenal are yet to record a victory against Pep Guardiola's side in the league since 2015, losing home and away to their title rivals last season.
