FootballErik ten Hag Reacts to Andre Onana's Champions League Costly Errors
- Andre Onana came under sharp criticism after Man United's defeat to Galatasaray
- The shot-stopper's costly mistakes saw the Red Devils suffer yet another defeat
- Rasmus Hojlund scored twice in the tie, but it was not enough to save United against the Turkish side
Erik ten Hag has launched a passionate defence of Andre Onana in the wake of his costly mistakes in the Champions League.
Onana was between the sticks on Tuesday night when United hosted Galatasaray for their second Group A game at Old Trafford.
However, the Cameroonian did little to help his side earn a positive result, with his costly mistakes denying the hosts the three points.
The Mirror reports that the shot-stopper was at fault for Galatasaray's equaliser, which was scored by Akturkoglu shortly after Rasmus Hojlund had made it 2-1 for the hosts.
Incredibly, Onana contributed massively to United conceding a penalty in the dying minutes of the second half and Casemiro getting sent off.
His performances on the night sparked reactions from fans, with rival supporters taking to social media to mock the Cameroon international.
Ten Hag defends Onana
However, ten Hag has come out to defend Onana in the wake of yet another dreadful performance.
Speaking after the match, the United boss appeared to absolve his goalkeeper from any blame, adding that he will continue to back him.
"I will encourage him and back him. He’s a great goalkeeper. We have to settle down and look forward," Metro UK quoted ten Hag as saying.
"The mental errors we make, you cannot allow them at this level. You get punished. This is difficult to control," he added.
United signed Onana in the summer from Inter Milan in a deal worth £47million.

FootballRival fans troll Onana
Sports Brief also reported that fans trolled Andre Onana after the goalkeeper shipped three goals against Arsenal to take his total goals conceded this season to eight.
The Cameroonian became one of the world's most expensive goalkeepers in the world when he was signed by United to replace David De Gea, who left at the expiration of his contract. Onana has only shown glimpses of his passing range; he has yet to show that he's better than the Spaniard.
