FootballBukayo Saka Suffers Injury Setback Days to Manchester City Clash
- Bukayo Saka lasted less than half an hour for Arsenal against RC Lens in the Champions League
- The England star had to be subbed off after suffering an apparent injury
- News of Saka’s injury will come as a huge blow to Arsenal, who face Manchester City over the weekend
Arsenal suffered a setback during their Champions League clash against Lens as Bukayo Saka was forced off the game with an apparent injury.
Saka lasted just over 30 minutes in the Gunners’ second group game before he was replaced by Fabio Vieira.
Despite his superb form for Arsenal, Saka has not been fully fit in recent weeks and had to pass a late fitness test before his side’s trip to Bournemouth last weekend.
Before being taken off on Tuesday, October 3, Saka was on the assist sheet as he set up Gabriel Jesus for his side’s opening goal in the 14th minute.
Has Arteta overplayed Saka?
The fact that Saka was in the starting XI despite not being fully fit will not please Arsenal fans, especially with a crunch game against Manchester City coming up in their next Premier League game, as cited on The Mirror.
Six days before the Bournemouth game, Saka once again had to be taken off in the North London derby as a precaution, a telling sign that the winger perhaps needed some rest, as reported by the Mirror.
Notably, Saka is the player who has accumulated the most minutes of any Arsenal player in Mikel Arteta’s reign at the Emirates.
How the game went
Despite Jesus’ opener, Lens were back in the game with a decent finish from Adrien Thomasson, whose first-time shot found the corner, as per BBC.
In the second half the game was turned on its head as the home side took the lead through Elye Wahi, whose first-time strike stunned Mikel Arteta’s side.
