  • Manchester United come up against Galatasaray on Tuesday in the Champions League
  • Both sides are looking for their first win in the European elite competition this season
  • Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk already knows what it takes to beat the Red Devils

Manchester United could find it difficult to get past Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League as the Turkish club’s manager has some experience in beating them.

The Red Devils are looking to kickstart their European elite campaign after an opening group stage defeat to Bayern Munich, who won 4-3 a fortnight ago.

In their second match of a tricky group, United come up against last season’s Turkish Super Lig champions, who had a morale-boosting 2-2 draw against FC Copenhagen in their first game.

After going 2-0 down, Galatasaray pulled off an epic comeback to share the spoils with the club from Denmark, a result that helped them go above United in Group A.

Okan Buruk’s win over United

Another minor but important detail that could work in the Turkish side’s favour is the fact that their manager, Okan Buruk already knows what it takes to beat United.

In November 2020, while managing UCL rookies, Istanbul Basaksehir, United succumbed to a 2-1 defeat with Buruk managing the side at that stage, per the BBC.

Former Chelsea and Newcastle striker, Demba Ba was the slayer on the day, capitalising on a comical error in the United defence to get the first goal.

Edin Visca then made it 2-0, although United gave themselves hope before the interval when Anthony Martial headed in from Luke Shaw’s cross.

Despite chasing an equaliser, Istanbul Basaksehir - a club formed in 1990 - hung on for a famous win against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.

Buruk’s sentiments before the game

Speaking ahead of the Champions League cracker on Tuesday, Buruk was critical about training at Old Trafford as he claimed the presence of cameras gave his side a slight disadvantage.

"We cannot do tactical training in the stadium we go to. There are cameras everywhere, you can watch it later. All teams in Europe do this," he told Manchester newspaper, Milliyet.

However, he could certainly have an emotional edge over the Red Devils and time will tell which proves more advantageous.

United fan shares clip of leaking Old Trafford

Sports Brief also reported on a Man United fan’s video highlighting the deplorable state of an Old Trafford section.

It is understood the clip was taken during the Red Devils' Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The clip sparked reactions among online users, with rival fans taking advantage of the situation to mock the club.
