Mokwena Speaks About Opponents Ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns’ Quest in CAF Champions League

Mamelodi Sundowns manager Rhulani Mokwena has spoken about their opponents ahead of the Brazilians' quest in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League.

The Premier Soccer League side booked a place in the group stage of the African club competition after a convincing victory over Burundian side Bumamuru in the second preliminary round.

The Brazilians won the tie 6-0 on aggregate and will now play in the group stages of the competition.

Ahead of the group stage draw, Masandawana coach Mokwena explained why they need to respect every one of their opponents as they continue their quest for continental success, according to reports in the South African.

"During my time here as part of the technical team, we faced some very challenging qualifying games, such as the match against Chicken Inn from Zimbabwe (in 2016)," he said.
"These games can be potential stumbling blocks, and if you do not respect your opponents and the games, you could find yourself in trouble."

The South African manager further disclosed why it is important to praise Sundowns' present squad.

"That is why it is crucial to commend this group for their mentality, professionalism and a consistent winning record," he added.

The PSL defending champions will hope to seal another title in their next game against Orlando Pirates in the final of the MTN8 Cup, according to Soccerway.

Sports Brief earlier reported that Rhulani Mokwena believes Sundowns can replicate Arsenal's feat in the DStv Premiership this season after their eighth successive win in the league.

The Brazilians continue their 100 per cent win rate in the league this season after defeating Stellenbosch 3-1 on Wednesday, September 27.

Ahead of their CAF Champions League second-leg qualifier against Bumamuru, according to iDiskiTimes, Sundowns manager Mokwena believes his team can do the impossible by replicating Arsenal's invincible season in the PSL.
