Lamine Yamal's good performances have been rewarded with a new contract at Barcelona. The 16-year-old wonderkid has inked a new deal at the club with a €1 billion release clause.

The deal is set to run until 2026, tying him down for the long term as he develops under Xavi Hernandez.

The 16-year-old has become an important player for Xavi this season, and although he hasn't scored a goal, his performances have been impressive. He has played in every Barcelona game this season, and with Raphinha injured, he will probably play a more prominent role, per Transfermarkt.

Towards the end of the 2022/23 season, Yamal became the club's youngest-ever player to feature in La Liga. He came on as a substitute aged 15 years, nine months, and 16 days.

He also became Spain's youngest debutant and scorer earlier last month.

Yamal signs new Barcelona deal

Ahead of Barcelona's Champions League clash with Porto on Wednesday, the club revealed that the youngster had signed a new deal.

Barcelona's club statement read:

"FC Barcelona and Lamine Yamal have reached an agreement on a new contract binding the player to the club until 30 June 2026, with the buyout clause set at one billion euros.
"The deal ensures that the youngster will be staying at Barca, the club he has belonged to since the age of seven, when he joined from CF La Torreta."

The youngster played a crucial role in Barcelona's win over Sevilla last Friday, evidence that he is ready to take the next step in his budding career.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Yamal earning a standing ovation from Villarreal supporters after his electrifying performance for Barcelona during their thrilling seven-goal encounter at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

Following his contribution to the Catalans' fourth goal, Xavi decided to substitute him. As he made his way to the bench, he was treated to an enthusiastic standing ovation from Villarreal fans, who acknowledged his performance.
