  • Barcelona have been dealt another injury blow ahead of a crucial showdown
  • Raphinha is set to be out for several weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury
  • The 26-year-old is at risk of missing the first El Clasico of the 2023/24 season

Another key Barcelona player is at risk of missing important fixtures in the coming weeks due to injury.

Brazil international, Raphinha sustained a hamstring injury in the hard-fought 1-0 win against Sevilla last Friday. He now joins Frenkie de Jong and Pedri on the sidelines.

The 26-year-old started the game on Friday in midfield but had to be withdrawn due to injury. Xavi's side was struggling, but Sergio Ramos's own goal late in the game gave them a vital win.

Barcelona did not reveal a possible return date for Raphinha, but reports in Spain indicate he will miss up to a month. He will miss the next two games before the international break: a trip to Porto in the UEFA Champions League and a La Liga clash at Granada.

The two-week break will give the former Leeds United time to recover. For now, his chances of playing in the first El Clasico this season, set for October 28, are slim.

Who will replace Raphinha?

Xavi has a few names he can call upon to replace the Brazilian winger. Lamine Yamal is the obvious choice, but the coach will want to manage his minutes, considering he's only 16 years old.

Another player who can step up is Ferran Torres, who has done well this season, per Football Espana.

Fermin Lopez replaced Raphinha against Sevilla and can be an option for Xavi as they seek maximum points before the October international break.

La Blaugrana are currently second in the table with 20 points after eight games. They trail leaders, Real Madrid by a point. If both sides continue like this, the upcoming El Clasico will be one of the most anticipated in recent times.

Raphinha wants Barcelona success

Sports Brief also reported on Raphinha stating he has lots to offer and is not looking at leaving Camp Nou anytime soon, despite an underwhelming 2022/23 campaign.

The Brazilian winger joined Barcelona amid some huge fanfare last summer from English side, Leeds, but the 26-year-old has failed to meet the club’s expectations.

Raphinha had only managed 10 goals in 50 appearances for the Catalan giants, prompting reports of the Spanish club being willing to offload him after one season.
