FootballTottenham 2:1 Liverpool: Romero Savages Mac Allister After Controversial Game
- Tottenham Hotspur beat Liverpool 2-1 with a late own goal from Joel Matip
- The match had controversial decisions go against Liverpool, who finished with nine men
- Argentina players Cuti Romero and Alexis Mac Allister had a go at each other on Instagram
Argentina stars Cuti Romero and Alexis Mac Allister had a thing on Instagram after Tottenham Hotspur beat Liverpool 2-1 under controversial conditions.
A late Joel Matip's own goal gifted Tottenham the win after a series of questionable decisions from the officials and video assistant referee, much to the dismay of the Reds fans.
Luis Diaz thought he had given Liverpool the lead in the first half, but the goal was incorrectly ruled for offside shortly after Liverpool were down to 10 men after Curtis Jones was shown a straight red.
The Reds received a second red card after Diogo Jota was sent off for two yellow cards in 22 seconds in the 69th minute despite coming on at half-time for the injured Cody Gakpo.
Romero savages Mac Allister
Referee Simon Hooper had a dismal day on the pitch with three questionable decisions, as noted by Mirror UK, the biggest of which was disallowing Diaz's goal after 'human error' from VAR Darren England.
The PGMOL apologised for the incident on Sky Sports, but Liverpool star Mac Allister could not hide his disdain while his compatriot Romero was celebrating on Instagram.
As spotted by ESPN FC in a now-deleted comment, the Liverpool midfielder commented, "normal when you play with 12" on his national teammate's post, which he responded to with "cry at home."
The comment was brought down hours later, albeit to avoid sanctions for the former Brighton midfielder, as it could be considered to tarnish the league's image.
Klopp blasts PGMOL's apology
Sports Brief reported that Jurgen Klopp hit back at PGMOL's apology after Luis Diaz's goal, which could have given Liverpool the lead in the first half, was incorrectly ruled out for offside.
The league's refereeing body issued an apology after the game, citing human error from VAR official Darren England, but Klopp was having none of it as the damage was done already.
