FootballAston Villa 6 Brighton 1: Man United Fans Rejoice As Roberto De Zerbi’s Side Suffer Heavy Defeat
- Aston Villa put six goals past a hapless Brighton on September 30 at Villa Park
- Ollie Watkins was the tormentor in chief, with the England international scoring three times
- Manchester United fans used the result to hit back at Brighton
Aston Villa mercilessly put Brighton and Hove Albion to the sword on Saturday afternoon at the Villa Park. Ollie Watkins scored a hat-trick, his second in all competitions this season, as Unai Emery's side ran out 6-1 victors in Birmingham.
It was a tough outing for Roberto De Zerbi, who failed to conjure something up against a rampant home side. The Italian had made four changes from his previous lineup, with 18-year-old Jack Hinshelwood making his full Premier League debut.
Watkins took full advantage of the presence of England's manager, Gareth Southgate, sitting in the stands to score his first and second goals in the 14th and 21st minutes before Pervis Estupinan scored an own goal.
Ansu Fati scored his goal for the Seagulls after the break, but Watkins extinguished any hopes of a comeback with a fourth goal for his side in the 65th minute. Jacob Ramsey and Douglas Luiz rounded off the scoring.
But surprisingly, as Brighton bore the full brunt of Villa's devastating attack, it was Manchester United fans who were delighting in the result. United have been recent victims of the South Coast side.
Brighton have won at Old Trafford in back-to-back seasons, the latest coming on September 16, where they won 3-1. Their social media admin then aimed a brutal dig on Andre Onana, who had an off-colour day.
