Chelsea Women's star Lauren James has waded into the never-ending GOAT debate ahead of the start of the Women's Super League season.
James will be back in the thick of things for her club when they play Tottenham Hotspur in the opening game week on October 1. The Blues, coached by Emma Hayes, are seeking to win their fifth consecutive title.
Ahead of that game, James was engaged in a quickfire segment where she picked Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo. The footballers are regarded as the best ever to ever in history, with their fans often finding it hard to agree with the other faction.
Lauren James' thoughts on Messi vs Hazard
James, however, had a different answer when quizzed on who she would go for between Messi and Eden Hazard, to which the 22-year-old settled on the latter. Hazard is undoubtedly one of Chelsea's greatest-ever players, despite things taking a turn for the worse when he joined Real Madrid.
"I just like the way he plays, the way he dribbles. I still love Messi, but Hazard will always be my favourite," said James in an interview with Sky Sports.
The winger was one of England's standout performances at the 2023 Women's World Cup, where they lost the final to Spain. She starred in the group stage before picking up a red-carded in the round of 16. She named Brazil's Marta as her favourite women's player of all time.
