Girona continues to be on the lips of many and it is little wonder, considering the Spanish club's blistering start to the 2023/24 La Liga campaign.

The exploits of the 47-year-old manager have not gone unnoticed and have also rekindled talks about the indirect influence of Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola on the club.

Guardiola’s influence on Girona revealed

The former Barcelona man, who has grown in recent times to become one of the best managers in modern football, has seen his influence beyond his current English side.

Guardiola's impact on modern-day managers, including Mikel Arteta, Enzo Maresca, and Vincent Kompany, has also been highlighted in the success of Girona, per Tribuna.

Indirectly, the Spanish manager's brother, Pere Guardiola's Girona Football Group are part-owners of the La Liga side, with the City Football Group owning a majority share.

The latter administers clubs like Man City, Palermo, and New York City, and has a 47 percent stake in Girona.

There are also players who are or used to be part of Man City at the rising Spanish club, including talented wing-back, Yan Couto and game-winning defender, Eric Garcia.

Last season’s breakout star, Taty Castellanos also stemmed from the City group and is now with Lazio. Players from Barcelona’s La Masia academy, where Guardiola made his name, are also a mainstay in Michel’s side.

The Catalan club will welcome La Liga giants, Real Madrid to the Estadi Montilivi this weekend, per Whoscored and will certainly hope they can continue their incredible form.

Guardiola sets new targets for Man City

Meanwhile, Sports Brief also reported on Pep Guardiola’s new targets for Man City after the Premier League champions exited the Carabao Cup.

After their defeat to Newcastle, he came out to bizarrely claim they were not out to chase the quadruple, adding that their only target is another treble.
