Barcelona legend, Samuel Eto'o has been reportedly accused of match-fixing and is presently under investigation by the police in Cameroon.
The former Inter Milan striker retired a few years ago and has since ventured into football administration, with him being the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, also known as FECAFOOT presently. He has been the president of the federation since December 2021.
Reports have it that the African football legend played a key role in a match-fixing scandal in the Cameroon league.
Eto'o was accused of influencing the promotion of Victoria United to the first division, according to Complete Sports.
The former Chelsea striker was reportedly caught on an audio leak promising to promote a club by fixing games.
“There are things we can do…. we’ll give you your three points. Opopo must go up to the first division. This is our goal. This is our federation. Victoria United will go up,” he reportedly said.
With the investigation still going on, the former Everton star has come out to deny all accusations, claiming he was telling one of his "friends" another thing contrary to what he was accused of saying in the audio leaks.
“I would have done everything possible to avoid any refereeing errors against him.”
The police in Cameroon have reportedly opened an investigation into alleged ‘abuse of authority and corruption’ by the Barcelona legend, according to the Guardian.

Sports Brief also reported that the Confederation of African Football, CAF is set to investigate Eto'o, over alleged improper conduct as president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
