The Minister of Sports Development in Nigeria, John Owan Enoh is making a move to protect Super Eagles star, Victor Osimhen amid his recent issues with Napoli.
The Nigerian striker is currently not on good terms with the Italian side after the recent TikTok controversy, following his missed penalty against Bologna at the weekend.
The Partenopei later posted a video mocking Osimhen on their official TikTok account - a move that reportedly did not go down well with the striker.
The Serie A champions later deleted the video amid a wave of outrage on social media but the damage had already been done, with Osimhen's agent, Roberto Calenda threatening to take legal action against Napoli.
Enoh, via his official handle on X (formerly Twitter), said he was saddened by the recent issues the former Lille striker is having with his club, according to the Punch.
The Nigerian minister labelled his official statement as 'a rally for Victor Osimhen and all Nigerian athletes'.
"Over the past weekend, the news coming out of Napoli concerning Super Eagles player - Victor Osimhen saddened me greatly."
The statement also read:
"My office is trying to reach Victor Osimhen directly as well to understand first-hand the issues. We are committed to establishing the facts of the matter."
Enoh also confirmed he has been in touch with multiple senior Nigerian officials regarding the matter:
"Meanwhile, I am in touch with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar and the Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Italy, Ambassador Mfawa Abam."
It remains to be seen what comes of this latest development, with many fans and even some football legends calling on Osimhen to leave Napoli behind and move on.
