  • Erling Haaland left fans dazed with a bizarre request to Alexander Isak
  • Isak scored the solitary goal for Newcastle United that dumped Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup
  • Pep Guardiola decided against playing his top striker despite his side urgently needing a goal

Erling Haaland was an unused substitute as Manchester City were knocked out by Newcastle United in the third round of the Carabao Cup on September 27.

Alexander Isak's goal in the second half was the difference between the two sides at St.James Park as Pep Guardiola's dream of a quadruple faded away.

It was also the Citizens' first defeat of the season. Prior to the trip to Tyneside, they had won all their opening six games of the season, plus their first Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade.

After the game, Haaland surprised many fans when he was spotted asking for Isak's shirt. The Norwegian's request was granted as the match winner of the day happily obliged.

@Judz1991 cheekily said;

"They say don't meet your heroes, but Haaland looks absolutely buzzing, bless him."

@NewBrook82 said;

"Isak is that good; even Haaland wants his shirt."

Many would have thought that the former Real Sociedad striker would be the one asking for Haaland's shirt, given his many achievements in recent months.

Why Haaland wasn't used against Newcastle

The 23-year-old, who has had the English Premier League in a chokehold since his arrival last season, wasn't called on by Guardiola despite his side desperately needing a goal.

"Erling has played a lot of minutes. We have a lot of games ahead of us," explained the Spanish Coach, as quoted by Evening Standard.

The defending champions are back in Premier League action tomorrow when they face Wolves before taking a trip to Germany to face RB Leipzig. Last season's runners-up Arsenal will then welcome them at the Emirates next Sunday.

Guardiola's angry moment with fan

Sports Brief also reported on Guardiola's angry moment with a fan during City's 1-0 Premier League win over Newcastle United.

He was picked up by the camera voicing his frustration at the supporter during the latter stages of the game at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola explained at his presser that the fan had asked him to make a substitution and he invited them to sit in his coaching position.
