For years, Manchester United were looking to sign a young striker who could lead the line at the club for years after they failed to secure the signing of Erlijng Haaland.
Benjamin Sesko was one of their targets this summer, but he chose to join RB Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg.
In 2022, the 20-year-old striker had agreed to join the German side ahead of the 2023/24 season. He attracted a lot of interest from top European clubs but decided to move to Germany.
The Slovenian has started well for Leuipzig, scoring three goals in six appearances in all competitions. The Red Devils opted for Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund, who joined from Atalanta, per 90min.
Sesko now joins a long list of footballers who have rejected Man United, including Erling Haaland.
Why Sesko snubbed Man United
Speaking to Transfermarkt, the Slovenian striker said he wanted to come to Leipzig for many reasons.
"The thing is, I wasn't really involved in these kinds of [transfer] conversations. But I think it was better to come here."
He said the style of football persuaded him to join Leipzig.
"It was very important for me to go to a place that plays a similar style of football. I already knew what I had to do and didn’t have to go through a whole learning process again."
Last season, he scored 16 league goals for Red Bull Salzburg. At 20, he has 66 goals in his club career and seven for his country.
