- Sundowns have surpassed Kaizer Chiefs' unbeaten record in the Premier Soccer League
Rhulani Mokwena has claimed Mamelodi Sundowns can replicate Arsenal's feat in the DStv Premiership this season after their eighth successive win in the league.
The Brazilians continue their 100 per cent win rate in the league this season after defeating Stellenbosch 3-1 on Wednesday, September 27.
The win against the Stellies, means Sundowns have now gone 32 games in the league without defeat, ending Kaizer Chiefs’ record.
Ahead of their CAF Champions League second-leg qualifier against Bumamuru, according to iDiskiTimes, Sundowns manager Mokwena believes his team can do the impossible by replicating Arsenal's invincible season in the DStv Premiership.
“Would I back this team? 150%. Otherwise, I shouldn’t be coaching them. They have my undivided, unreserved confidence," he said.
“And it’s not a question of backing, it is a question of understanding of how difficult that dream is. It’s not a goal. It’s not an obsession. It’s a dream."
The Brazilians' coach further explained that they work every single day in training to achieve this feat.
“It’s something that we work for every single day to win every single match. That’s the responsibility we have at this football club. And the support and the backing, the group knows that they’ve got from me, 150%," he added.
Arsenal are still the only team in the English Premier League to have an invincible season under Arsene Wenger in the 2003-04 campaign.
The Gunners went unbeaten in 38 league games, winning 26 matches and drawing 12, according to GOAL.
