FootballGuardiola Outlines Man City’s Fresh Target After Early Carabao Cup Elimination
- Man City's hopes of winning the quadruple this season were shattered on Wednesday night
- The reigning Premier League champions suffered an early elimination from the Carabao Cup
- City were dumped out of the domestic tournament after a 1-0 defeat against Newcastle United
Pep Guardiola has outlined Manchester City's fresh target following their early elimination from the Carabao Cup.
City, who are multiple winners of the competition, were sent packing on Wednesday night by Newcastle United.
The English giants went into the tie off a fine run of form in the Premier League that had seen them win all their six opening fixtures.
However, Guardiola's charges were unable to replicate that form against the Magpies as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against the Magpies.
According to Metro UK, Alexander Isak was Newcastle's match hero, with his solitary goal earning them a spot in the next round of the competition.
Pep outline's City's target
Man City's elimination from the Carabao Cup ended any hopes of winning the quadruple, with the side now competing in only three tournaments.
However, Pep has come out to bizarrely claim they were not out to chase the quadruple, adding that their only target now is the treble.
“You think the target was the quadruple? We are more than happy with the treble...”, Fabrizio Romano quoted Pep saying.
“Congratulations to Newcastle. They were very good tonight, credits to them," he added.
City won a historic treble last season when they became only the second Premier League side after rivals Man United to achieve the feat.
Carabao Cup fourth-round draw
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Man United, who are the defending champions, have been handed a tricky home tie against Newcastle following the fourth-round draw conducted on Wednesday night.
The fixture is a repeat of last season's Carabao Cup final when the Red Devils stunned the Magpies to lift the title at Wembley.
