- David Beckham was in the company of former Real Madrid teammate at US Open Cup final
- Inter Miami had an opportunity to win another trophy after the inaugural Leagues Cup win
- Lionel Messi did not play after failing to recover from the injury that kept him out previously
There was some Real Madrid royalty at the DRV PNK Stadium for the US Open Cup final between Inter Miami and Houston Dynamo.
Miami had another shot at silverware in the cup competition, having previously won the Leagues Cup by beating Nashville SC in the final, with Lionel Messi scoring.
As reported by Goal, the Herons would have had to do it without their captain, as the Argentine failed to recover from an injury that kept him out of the last game when he walked out of the match against Toronto.
Head coach, Gerardo Martino was optimistic that Messi could make the bench but a late decision on his fitness had to be made, which eventually meant he did not join the Inter Miami substitutes.
Beckham reunites with Zidane
Club co-owner, David Beckham was in attendance at their home stadium for the game as he has been for most games, and was spotted in the company of a former teammate.
As spotted by CBS Sports Golazo, the English legend had his former Real Madrid teammate and fellow legend, Zinedine Zidane with him for the much-anticipated cup final.
The two played together at Los Blancos for three years before the Frenchman retired professionally in 2006 after the FIFA World Cup, with the Englishman leaving the club a year later.
Beckham moved to Major League Soccer with Los Angeles Galaxy FC in 2007 and began laying the groundwork for his post-retirement life, which led to the procurement of Inter Miami.

FootballBeckham responds to 'script' claims
Inter Miami were the worst team in MLS before Messi's arrival but have become the best and are unbeaten in nine games with the World Cup winner, leading to claims the games are scripted.
As reported by Sports Brief, Beckham gave a brilliant response to these seemingly unfounded claims, calling it the best compliment anyone could give the players because it was like a movie.
Messi equals Beckham's free kick record
Sports Brief also reported on Messi equalling Beckham's record after scoring the 65th free kick of his career to seal a 1-0 win for Argentina over Ecuador.
In the same game, he equalled former teammate, Luis Suarez's record of most goals in the World Cup qualifiers for a South American country with 29 goals.
