Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandes showed off incredible skills with an impeccable first touch during the club’s away La Liga clash against Real Mallorca.
The Spanish champions are currently 1-0 down to Mallorca in Son Moix courtesy of Vedat Muriqi’s early goal.
Xavi was able to wrestle the La Liga title back to Catalonia last season, but this exquisite control in his technical area was one of the finest acts the Spaniard has managed since his Camp Nou return last year.
Per ESPN, the former Barcelona captain showcased his vintage skills in the first half at Son Moix Stadium.
In the 28th minute, with his team already trailing 1-0, Xavi effortlessly controlled a miscued clearance from a Mallorca player with the outside of his foot.
In a video shared on social media, the 43-year-old's display is a reminder to fans of the skills that once dazzled La Liga.
Xavi showcased his exceptional skills during his playing career, and it's reassuring to witness that he hasn't lost his touch, even after retiring four years ago.
Barcelona has faced a challenging evening thus far, and Xavi will need to inspire his team if they hope to stage a comeback and secure victory against Celta Vigo on Saturday.
A win would mark their seventh consecutive victory.
Xavi aims slight dig at Real Madrid
Meanwhile, Xavi revealed that he watched the Madrid derby, saying he loved what he saw from Atletico.
“I saw it, it was a great game, especially from Atlético, with intensity and generosity in the work. A great game of football. I only saw the game, it’s a very favourable result for Atlético, a very important win,” he said, via Barca Universal.
Atletico Madrid could seek €80 million from Barcelona for Joao Felix
FootballMadrid fans surely won't like that comment, especially from a Barcelona icon like Xavi. In the last four games, each side has won two games.
Xavi led Barcelona to the La Liga title last season for the first time since 2019, per the Athletic. Considering the financial mess Barca are in, the 43-year-old has done a commendable job.
