FootballBarcelona Reportedly Interested in Signing Super Eagles Star From Leicester City
- Wilfred Ndidi is said to be on Barcelona's transfer wishlist for next summer
- The Catalans are in the market for a new midfielder in their new campaign
- The Super Eagles star is also reportedly on the radar of other European sides
Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Super Eagles star, Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester City next summer.
The Nigerian midfielder has been impressive for the Foxes since they were relegated from the English top flight at the end of last season, having scored three goals so far.
Ndidi has been enjoying his new role under new Leicester manager, Enzo Maresca and has caught the eye of top clubs in Europe due to his recent performances.
According to a report by SPORT, the Nigerian international is set to be a free agent in 2024 once his contract with Leicester City is up.
Barcelona are said to be looking at signing the 26-year-old on a deal in the summer due to their financial situation, Sportskeeda also reported.
The Catalans were previously interested in signing the Leicester City star a few seasons ago but were put off by the asking price of the English side.
The 2015/16 Premier League winners reportedly wanted to sell the Nigerian midfielder for €70 million, a fee La Blaugrana were not ready to pay.
However, Barcelona could miss out on signing Ndidi in the summer as other European clubs like Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Juventus are said to be monitoring the Super Eagles star.
Ndidi’s market value decreases
Sports Brief previously reported on Ndidi's market transfer value nosediving from €60mil to €25mil in just one year following the relegation of Leicester City at the end of the 2022/23 season.
Last year, the midfielder was rated as the most valuable player from Nigeria ahead of Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, who is fourth in the world following his displays for the Serie A champions.
Ndidi suffered a drop in his transfer market value on four consecutive occasions between September and November last year, as well as March to June 2023 after the Foxes dropped to the EFL.
