Jose Mourinho is not your usual coach and one of his former players, Mario Balotelli, has explained a side to the current AS Roma boss that not many acknowledge.

Mourinho is currently in charge of the Italian side, having taken over before the Euro 2020 was delayed to 2021 and making the team one of Serie A's centre of attraction.

He guided the team to the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League in his first season and reached the final of the Europa League in his second season, losing to Sevilla.

Mourinho's work in Rome is his second time in charge of an Italian club, having previously managed Inter Milan, where he won the treble in 2010 - with a squad Balotelli was part of.

Balotelli explains his relationship with Mourinho

'The Special One' has come under criticism for his pragmatic style of play, famously referred to as 'parking the bus', but Balotelli defended his former boss during an interview on TV Play via Calcio Mercato.

"Mourinho has never been a coach with a great game. He is more charismatic, he gives you grit and competitive malice. He has his ideas about the game, but he doesn’t go too much for tactics."

The Italian 'bad boy' went on to explain his relationship with the former Chelsea boss during their time together at Inter.

"Mou has a good character, he’s special. He made me laugh out loud. There were also clashes, but he motivated you. He brought out the best and the worst in you. That Inter I played for was a squad of 25 phenomena," he added.

The former Manchester City star also hit back at the critics, claiming Mourinho is unassailable and they should back off from attacking him, as reported by Football Italia.

Mourinho's comment on Europa League final

Sports Brief also reported on Jose Mourinho's audacious claim about last season's Europa League final as his team regrouped for another attempt to win the competition.

AS Roma lost the final under controversial conditions to Sevilla in Budapest, with the Special One insisting his team did not lose the game and he would stick to that claim.
