  • Victor Osimhen missed a penalty that could have given Napoli a victory against Bologna
  • The Nigerian striker was furious with his manager after he was substituted minutes later
  • The club's official TikTik account is under fire for making a mockery of the Nigerian star

Nigerians are not taking it lightly with Napoli's official Tiktok account after the club uploaded a video trolling Victor Osimhen for his penalty miss against Bologna.

The Italian champions have not started the season strongly, and their woes were compounded by a 0-0 draw away from home as they remain seventh on the table.

Osimhen could have won the day for his team after Napoli were awarded a penalty for a handball in the box, but the 24-year-old blazed it wide to wrap up a frustrating day.

The former Lille striker was substituted in the 87th minute, and he was not impressed with his manager as he vented his frustration. Osimhen reportedly apologised to his team in the dressing room.

Napoli's Tiktok trolls Osimhen

The penalty miss robbed the Neapolitans of what could have been three points, and it sparked an angry reaction from fans, many of whom had placed a bet on the champions to pick maximum points.

As spotted on Napoli's official Tiktok, the club made a video of Osimhen clamouring for the penalty only to miss in a rather denigrating manner and called him 'pessi' - a social media term coined for Messi each time he misses a penalty.

Football fans on social media, particularly Nigerians, have not reacted well to the news and found it condescending that an official account was responsible for such antics.

The post has spent over a day online and has yet to be taken down despite the outrage, especially on X (formerly Twitter) where the post has been recirculated.

Osimhen favourite for best African award

Sports Brief previously analysed Osimhen as a favourite to win an award later this year as he leads other contenders for Africa's biggest individual prize.

The Nigerian striker helped Napoli win the Serie A title and reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the Italian club's history.
