  • Nasser Al-Khelaifi expects Kylian Mbappe to win the 2023 Ballon d’Or
  • The Paris Saint-Germain forward is one of the top contenders for the award
  • Mbappe has been nominated alongside Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland for the award

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has tipped Kylian Mbappe to win the Ballon d’Or ahead of Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland when the winner is announced in October.

The France captain has been nominated alongside 30 players for the top award, including Erling Haaland, who won the treble with Manchester City and 2022 World Cup winner Lionel Messi.

According to Football Transfers, Nasser Al-Khelaifi believes Mbappe is currently the best player in the world and cannot see a better winner for the Ballon d’Or this year than his PSG forward.

“I'm proud of what he does and what the whole team does. We have the best player in the world and for me he deserves the Ballon d'Or.”

Mbappe has won the PSG hierarchy over again following a summer fallout which saw the 24-year-old forward get dropped from the first team after refusing to renew his contract with the Parisians.

Mbappe’s mother offers stern advice to PSG

Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe’s mother, Fayza Lamari, believes her 24-year-old son would end up “regretting” his decision not to go to Real Madrid this summer, PSG Talk reports.

Mbappe was strongly linked with a move to the Spanish giants this summer, although Los Blancos failed to make an official bid to sign the superstar from Paris Saint-Germain before the transfer window closed on September 1.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is yet to commit his future to PSG and could leave the reigning Ligue 1 champions as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Enrique offers Mbappe injury update

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Paris Saint Germain continued their early season resurgence after securing a statement victory against rivals Olympique Marseille in the first instalment of Le Classique for the season.

The Ligue 1 champions raced into an early lead courtesy of a sublime free kick from Moroccan fullback Achraf Hakimi. However, the club's blistering start to the fixture was soon marred by an injury to forward Kylian Mbappe.

The forward suffered a blow to his ankle and spent a moment receiving treatment on the sidelines.
